BAC Mission Statement

The Business Advisory Council (BAC) is a group of employers, teamed with the Washington State Department of Services for the Blind (DSB), dedicated to promoting the employment success of individuals who are blind or low visioned.

The BAC will advise the Department of Services for the Blind on issues or support DSB with the following Focus Objectives:
Advise DSB about the employment condition and climate in business or industry.

  • Advise DSB around issues of good business practices to assist in facilitating quality delivery of services to our customers.
  • Advise DSB on obstacles to employment of persons who are visually disabled and assist in developing strategies that reduce these barriers.
  • The BAC will network with other employers to establish a positive hiring environment for participants of DSB.
  • The BAC will work with other employers to promote the employment and retention services and products of DSB.
  • BAC will provide guidance to Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors on business expectations as well as offer from time to time services that improve employment outcomes for DSB participants including mock interviews, informational interviews, and networking opportunities.
  • The BAC provides forward thinking on developing marketing and strategic planning to promote the services and products of DSB to varied targeted customers including, business, community, and participants
