College Preparatory Program for High School Grads
Washington State Department Services for the Blind offers Bridge – a five-week summer program to assist blind or visually impaired students in their transition from high school to post-secondary education. Bridge is held on a university campus from mid-July to mid- August each year. A residential program, students live in a dorm and learn about campus life in preparation for entering college in the fall, including:
- Courses on college life, study and social skills, and independence
- Field trips
- Orientation and mobility lessons
- Campus tours
- Recreational activities
Students also participate in one 5-credit university course of their choosing from the available summer session.
Applications for the 2017 Bridge Program will be available in December 2016.
At this time, DSB does not charge any fees for participation in its summer programs. However, students should bring money for incidentals, social activities, snacks, etc.
