The ACB sponsors more than two dozen scholarships to students who are legally blind and enrolled in an academic or program. Amounts awarded vary. To apply, contact the ACB office in the Fall to request an information and an application packet. Applicants will be considered for every ACB scholarship for which they are eligible. Eligibility and limitations specific to individual scholarships will be noted in the announcement.
Limitations: Applications must include letters of recommendation, copies of academic transcripts, and an autobiographical sketch. Scholarship winners are expected to be present at the council's annual conference; the council will cover all reasonable expenses connected with convention attendance.
The deadline for applications is March of each year.
Generally, ACB scholarship winners receive a free copy of the Kurzweil OCR program.
ACB Scholarships:
Alma Murphey
Eligibility: Student must be a braille user and in graduate school.
Financial Data: $500
Number awarded: 1 each year
Arnold Sadler
Eligibility: The student must be blind or visually impaired and pursuing a degree in a field of service related to the disabled, i.e. rehabilitation
Financial Data: $1,500
Delbert Aman Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Blind or Visually Impaired student who is a resident of South Dakota or attending a South Dakota School.
Financial Data: $500
Dr. S Bradley Burson Memorial Scholarship
Eligibility: Student must be pursuing a degree in the pure sciences: physics, engineering, biology, chemistry.

Duane Buckley Memorial Scholarship
Purpose: To assist a student who strives to overcome extraordinary challenges. (Freshman)

Eunice Fiorito Memorial Scholarship
Purpose: To assist a blind student planning to enter the advocacy/disability field Preference goes to a student with little or no vision.
Financial Data: $2,000

Floyd Qualls Memorial National Industries for the Blind (NIB) Scholarships
Purpose: To provide financial assistance for post-secondary education to blind students.
Eligibility: Students who are legally blind may apply for these scholarships. Recipients are selected in each of 4 categories: entering freshmen in academic programs, undergraduates (sophomores, juniors, and seniors) in academic programs, graduate students in academic programs, and vocational school students. Selection is based on demonstrated academic record, involvement in extracurricular and civic activities, and academic objectives. The severity of the applicant's visual impairment and his/her study methods are also taken into account.
Financial Data: The stipend is $2,500.
Duration: 1 year
Number awarded: 8 each year (2 in each of the 4 categories).
Grant M. Mack Memorial Scholarships
Purpose: To provide financial assistance for post-secondary education to blind students majoring in business or management.
Eligibility: All legally blind persons admitted to post-secondary educational programs with a major in business or management (undergraduate or graduate) who are U.S. citizens or resident aliens. Selection is based on demonstrated academic record, involvement in extracurricular and civic activities, and academic objectives. The severity of the applicant's visual impairment and his/her study methods are also taken into account.
Financial Data: The stipend is $2,000.
Duration: 1 year
Special Features: These scholarships are sponsored by National Industries for the Blind in honor of a dedicated leader of the American Council of the Blind.
Number awarded: 2 each year.
John Hepner Scholarship
Eligibility: The student must be employed in a full-time job and attending a school carrying substantial credit courses.
Financial Data: $600
Kellie Cannon Memorial Scholarship
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to blind students who are interested in preparing for a career in the computer field.
Eligibility: High school seniors, high school graduates, and college students who are blind and are interested in majoring in computer information systems or data processing. Selection is based on demonstrated academic record, involvement in extracurricular and civic activities, and academic objectives. The severity of the applicant's visual impairment and his/her study methods are also taken into account.
Financial Data: The stipend is $1,000.
Duration: 1 year
Special features: This program is provided by Visually Impaired Data Processors International, an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind.

Oregon Council of the Blind
Eligibility: Residents of Oregon are given priority; however, if no state resident candidates apply, other candidates will be considered.

Nicholas DiCaprio Scholarship
Ross N. and Patricia Pangere Foundation for the visually impaired
Eligibility: Students must be pursuing a degree in the business fields.

Washington Council of the Blind awards scholarships to blind college or voc-tech school students in the State of Washington. The minimum scholarship amount to be awarded will be $2,000. Deadline is June 30th.
Eligibility requirements include: The applicant must be legally blind. The applicant must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited Washington State vocational school, college or university, or one located in the United States Pacific Northwest; a college or university with a branch campus in Washington State; or a Distance Learning Program. (The United States Pacific Northwest, as defined here, includes the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and Montana.)The applicant must be a resident of Washington State. (A resident of Washington State is defined as an individual whose physical residence has been in Washington State for a period of twelve (12) consecutive months at the time of application.)
