Home Management Curriculum

The purpose of the Home Management class is to assist students in developing alternative daily living skills to look good, feel confident that they can live in a clean environment, plan and prepare nourishing meals, eat with skill and grace and know that they have the ability to succeed at any thing they attempt.

House Cleaning:

Objective: Students will learn to maintain their own apartment in a clean and organized manner. In order to accomplish this, they will be instructed in the following skill areas:

  1. Cleaning the floor surface
    1. Vacuuming
    2. Sweeping
    3. Mopping
    4. Shampooing carpet
  2. Cleaning the bathroom
    1. Sink
    2. Toilet
    3. Tub/shower
    4. Mirror
    5. Floor
  3. Cleaning the kitchen
    1. Sink
    2. Counter tops
    3. Appliances
    4. Washing dishes by hand
    5. Loading/unloading the dish washer
    6. Emptying the garbage
  4. Living room/dining room
    1. Dusting/polishing furniture
    2. Washing windows/sliding glass doors
    3. Cleaning window blinds
  5. Bedroom
    1. Bed making/changing bed Lenin

Benchmark: Once the student has been evaluated and taught the techniques they need to use in cleaning the house effectively, they will demonstrate their proficiency by passing 10 randomly chosen apartment inspections.
